Message from President & CEO
It is indeed a great honour and privilege to serve this esteemed and reputable institution. I shall dedicate my level best to live up to the expectations, mandate, roles and responsibilities that come with the appointment for the institution towards paving its way to be a rising star of the region.
Putra Business School (PBS) is indeed an exclusive postgraduate university offering specialised programmes in business and management. As a full-fledged top business school, our aim is not only to produce competent graduates, but more importantly, to nurture our students with important human values such as integrity, honesty, care and accountability. Beyond this, our focus is also to produce top-notch graduates who are first-choice candidates for leading organisations.
Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) established the Yayasan Putra Business School (YPBS) or Putra Business School Foundation in 2011, and in the following year of 2012, we reached our establishment through YPBS which made us a part of UPM, a highly reputable research university that is ranked 123rd in the world and 2nd in Malaysia in the QS World University Rankings 2023.
PBS has obtained world class accreditations namely Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and The Alliance on Business Education and Scholarship for Tomorrow (ABEST21) besides local Malaysian Qualification Agency accreditations. In fact, PBS is the First Malaysian business school accredited by AACSB. Being part of a world-class business school, we have reached significant milestones when we collaborate with renowned professional bodies. The value added to students’ qualifications through collaborations with Institute of Marketing Malaysia, Malaysian Institute of Human Resource Management, Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, Chartered Management Institute, and Finance Accreditation Agency enables our graduates to carve stronger impacts in their professional careers. With such academic standing and unique collaborative partnerships, we have become the most sought-after business school and are able to attract and retain outstanding members of academia.
At PBS, you can choose six (6) Master of Business Administration (MBA) specialisations such as MBA (Corporate Governance), MBA (Human Potential Management – HPM), MBA (Marketing), MBA (International Business), MBA (Finance) and MBA (Management). As for PhD Programmes, you can choose the PhD in Finance, Marketing, Accounting and Management. Those who are constantly travelling, you can choose to do the MBA (Open and Distance Learning) which we offer the classes be conducted online by our senior professors. Notwithstanding, for busy working adults, you may choose Post Graduate Certificate, which is another path to do MBA, without taking all courses within a restricted time frame.
I am proud to announce that our commitment in promoting human governance is one of the unique propositions of PBS. Even though we are recognised in the corporate world, it is challenging to achieve high levels of corporate performance while concurrently maintaining a responsible business entity. This is where the adoption of human governance plays a pivotal role. The coexistence of performance and sustainability are heavily dependent upon the elements of human governance championed by PBS. This focus is consistent with the national aspiration through the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 and the global aspiration through the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Leadership based on human governance has taken a front seat in major organisations. Therefore, it has always been the dream of PBS to nurture human leaders and become a role model in postgraduate business education. Graduates with human values would be able to serve better in the turbulent business environment.
Benefits for our students include the fact that we are actively involved in business challenge competitions and we have mentors to train the students. The students come from different backgrounds especially those who hold senior management positions from the government sector such as from the Administrative and Diplomatic Officer services (Pegawai Tadbir dan Diplomatik-PTD), as well as Government-linked Companies and multinational companies. At PBS the students are able to build good networking opportunities with their peers and other students from either local or international countries. To date, our students are from about 30 countries. Following our collaboration with various top universities especially from France and Germany, our students have the option to undergo the exchange programme with any of the selected university partners abroad.
Benefits for our partners include the fact that we are able to collaborate in specialised areas, and our lecturers or professors who have industry experience are capable of providing consultancy services and executive development programmes for organisations or institutions that need our expertise.
I look forward to working with the PBS team, Business Partners and related organisations towards bringing PBS to new heights. My hope is that the existing partnerships will be further developed and strengthened for the benefit of all involved. I shall share my knowledge and experience to provide and implement necessary changes through my leadership. I will work towards adding value to our programmes, including to be up to speed with world renowned business schools.
To my most esteemed teaching colleagues, I shall ensure that your research work and industry experience be placed on the priority lane. While the current world economic and political climate could drain the energy within us, we cannot afford to work and be dragged at lower gears, and need to forge ahead progressively.
We look forward to providing the best ETD (education, training and development) to all especially towards enlarging the human resource capacity and hence, leadership. Being the business school of high reputation, we pursue the dictum of continuous improvement and welcome feedback from all of you.
