Master of Science (MSc) Programme

INTRODUCTION

The Master of Science programme is designed for individuals who aspire to become researchers in the field of business management. However, graduates of this programme can also work as business executives or managers in both the public and private sectors.

Students will be exposed to the relevant theories and critical research issues in their respective areas of specialization. Each student is required to conduct a research study and complete a thesis detailing the research objectives, literature reviewed, the research design, data analysis and findings of the research. The student has to prepare and defend his/her research proposal before being allowed to continue his/her research and completion of his/her thesis.

Students in the Master of Science programme can choose one of the following fields of study:

• Management
(including: Marketing, International Business, Management Information System, Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurship, etc.)
• Finance
• Accounting
• Business Law

    DURATION, INTAKES AND CLASSES

    DURATION OF STUDY
    The period of study ranges from 4 semesters (2 years) to 6 semesters (3 years).

    STUDENT INTAKES
    There are two intakes of students in each academic year: in September (first semester) and March (second semester).

    CLASSES
    Classes are held on weekdays (6.30 pm – 9.30 pm) during the evenings and on Saturday afternoons (2.30 pm – 5.30 pm).

      PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

      The Master of Science programme consists of four phases:

      PHASE I – COURSEWORK: (12 credit hours)
      Two core courses (6 credit hours)
      – Research Methodology
      – Business Statistics
      Seminar course (3 credit hours)
      – Seminar in Management/Marketing/Finance/Accounting
      Theory course (3 credit hours)
      – Theory in Management/Marketing/Finance/Accounting
      PHASE II – PROPOSAL DEFENCE Each student must publicly present and defend his/her MSc research proposals.
      The student is only allowed to continue with his/her research to Phase III on passing of the defence of his/her proposal.
      PHASE III – THESIS PREPARATION The student proceeds to his/her data collection, data analysis and report writing.
      PHASE IV – VIVA VOCE After completion and submission of the thesis, the student is required to attend a Viva Voce to orally defend his/her thesis.
